Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Trailer Offers Glimpse of New Superhero

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Trailer Offers Glimpse of New SuperheroABC premiered the first trailer for this fall’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. during the Season 2 finale of Once Upon a Time earlier this evening. Before bootleg versions could appear online, ABC quickly uploaded the clean high definition version for all of us to replay over and over.

Agents Coulson (Clark Gregg) provides voiceover for the trailer, introducing his small team as the S.H.I.E.L.D. operatives that take on cases yet to be classified. In a sense they are the X-Files branch of S.H.I.E.L.D. that explore the “strange and the unknown” in a world that has just seen a God fall from the sky and aliens attack through a wormhole over New York City.

Marvel and ABC were able to keep the inclusion of superheroes in the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot under wraps so it was a pleasant surprise to see a man leap off a burning building with a woman in his arms, landing cleaning about five stories below in a scene that looks right out of NBC’s Heroes. The man then appears later on the trailer slamming a man to the ground.

The actor in this role is J. August Richards from Angel, and there’s a strong probability that he’s playing the role of Luke Cage from Marvel Comics. If that’s the case, the inclusion of Cage opens up a world of possibilities for additional crossover between Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. How cool would it be to see Luke Cage show up in The Avengers 2? I would put the odds at 50/50 after seeing this trailer.

ABC and Marvel are playing up social media to get the word out on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Retweeting the hashtag #CoulsonLives helps unlock an extended look at the trailer. How extended we don’t know, but it currently stands at 22 percent at the time of this post. Be sure to tweet #CoulsonLives if you want to see a little bit more of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..

A full season order for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has already been placed by ABC and is set to premiere this fall. A day and time has not been locked down yet, but rumors are pointing toward either Tuesday or Thursday at 8pm.
