Another 80s TV series is poised to return on the big screen if New Line can cobble together a script from an A-list writer.
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed New Line and producer Raffaella De Laurentiis will soon begin assembling the pieces to put together a feature film based on the man who could build anything about of household objects to escape death, MacGyver.
It is too early to know if Richard Dean Anderson will be courted to reprise his role as the lead, cameo in a torch-passing ceremony to a younger lead or sit out altogether. If his cameo’s in various Stargate incarnations are any indication, a brief appearance should at least not be out of the realm of possibility.
With the term “MacGyver” already cementing its place in pop culture and used frequently to describe jury rigging something, New Line may be onto something with this revival. The studio’s Richard Brener seems to think so, “We think we’re a stick of chewing gum, a paper clip and an A-list writer away from a global franchise.”
