The jury is still out on whether M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender will help atone for a series of box office misfires the writer/director has churned out in his latest outings. Not one to let criticism affect him, Night is already gearing up for his next move.
Per THR’s Heat Vision, Night and an assistant have been shopping a script for a new secretive project to top studio executives. As soon as the executives have finished reading the script, the assistant has taken it right back.
Before you condemn this new project as memories of Lady in the Water and The Happening dance around your head, take this into consideration. Whatever this new project is about is intriguing enough that Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow and Bruce Willis are already attached. Willis of course starred in arguably Night’s best two films; The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable.
It will be interesting to see if/when a studio gobbles up this script and green lights it. Much of that could depend on the success of The Last Airbender, Night’s first foray into heavy special effects and a story not his own. For all we know, this new script isn’t his story either.
