Last week Sony confirmed rumor reports via Twitter that LittleBigPlanet Karting is in development and more information will be released shortly, probably if not before E3 then at E3.
What initially seems like a great idea is more a puzzling one considering ModNation Racers, the Sony exclusive highly customizable kart racing game, basically is the LittleBigPlanet version of kart racing. Everything about the karts is customizable, and tracks can be built from scratch for as long as players have the creative juices flowing to build new ones.
The next game in the ModNation Racers franchise is a PS vita launch title that arrives in stores this week. No additional ModNation Racers games have been announced.
One thought is LittleBigPlanet Karting will replace ModNation Racers, borrowing much of its core gameplay and inserting Sackboy and friends in to handle the branding. Or, Sony might aim for simplicity and LittleBigPlanet Karting is a basic kart racing game with LittleBigPlanet dropped in. I feel that approach would undermine the LittleBigPlanet brand which is built upon creation and customization.
We should know more about LittleBigPlanet Karting in the coming months.
