LittleBigPlanet 2 Beta Windows XP Level

LittleBigPlanet 2 for PS3 is still a few weeks off from release but the Beta has been accessible to a small community of gamers/developers for some time now. A quartet of those lucky few, “Boss_Mob,” “SaggySackBoy,” “tomatenbrei,” and “daFRED94,” have put together a rather ingenious level designed by thinking way outside the traditional box.

The four designers built their LittleBigPlanet 2 beta level based on Microsoft’s Windows XP operating system. Rather than run around a side-scroller or shoot stuff, in the Windows LBP Edition you literally navigate Windows XP. There’s a start button, recycling bin, desktop and all the familiar bleeps and blips Windows users either love or detest.

Because this was built within LittleBigPlanet 2 there’s a Sackboy influence built into several of the level’s features. The image gallery, for example, features portraits of Sackboy and his friends. The media player actually plays tunes and is themed with LittleBigPlanet 2 visuals.

A Windows operating system wouldn’t be complete without an Internet browser and mindless time wasting games, both of which this level has. The games include a shooter that allow you to blast incoming objects or dodge falling bricks. Playing either adds to the overall level score.

Internet Explorer has to be the coolest thing this level has to offer. You can actually run a real working Google search from within the level. Not that you’d have a need to do that, but its inclusion makes the mind jump with possibilities.

The end of the video below reveals how the level is beaten. If you’re planning on downloading this creation and don’t want to be spoiled then skip the past 15-20 seconds or so.
