Lionsgate has formally announced plans to bring Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now starring Marlon Brando, Martin Sheen, Robert Duvall, Laurence Fishburne, Dennis Hopper and Harrison Ford to Blu-ray Disc on October 19. Its release will mark the second American Zoetrope film Lionsgate distributes via home entertainment channels under their new distribution deal, the first being Tetro.
Coppola himself has supervised the new high definition transfer for the film’s first HD appearance on home video. There will be two separate Blu-ray skus available for sale; a 2-film set with Apocalypse Now – The 1979 Cut and Apocalypse Now Redux as well as over 9 hours of supplemental materials, and a 3-disc ‘Full Disclosure Edition’ that includes everything the 2-film set does as well as a seminal making-of documentary Hearts of Darkness, a 48-page collectible booklet and storyboard, photo and marketing archives.
Pricing for either set is not yet available at this time.
After Apocalypse now Lionsgate will release The Conversation starring Gene Hackman on Blu-ray. Its release date and additional information is currently unknown.
I’ll pass along Blu-ray cover art and Amazon pre-order links for both Apocalypse Now and Apocalypse Now: Full Disclosure Edition when they are available.
