Liam Neeson’s cameo as a tattoo artist in The Hangover Part II has been cut in its entirety.
Director Todd Phillips discovered during the editing process that the scene immediately following Neeson’s cameo was no longer needed. In cutting that scene, he needed to reshoot Neeson’s scene but the actor was unavailable while shooting Wrath of the Titans over in England.
With the clock ticking toward the May 26 release date, Phillips enlisted the help of Nick Cassavetes to step in at the last minute and take Neeson’s place. In Phillips words, Nick “crushed it.”
Cassavetes becomes the third actor to portray the tattoo artist in The Hangover Part II. The role was originally written for Mel Gibson, but the cast and crew were unwilling to work with the troubled actor given his off-camera private life issues.
The Hangover Part II stars Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms as the wolfpack experiencing a bad case of deja vu when they awake after a night of partying, in a foreign country, and missing a member of their party… again.
