Kristen Stewart’s post-Twilight schedule is starting to fill out with news of an action flick role and a gritty sequel.
Deadline is reporting that Universal is pleased enough with Snow White and the Huntsman to push forward with work on a sequel a month before the film is released in theaters. It co-stars Stewart, Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers) and Charlize Theron (Prometheus). Universal is working on getting David Koepp on board to pen the sequel, and will push forward to quickly lock in a production date in hopes of director Rupert Sanders making it his next film.
Snow White and the Huntsman didn’t beat Relativity’s more family friendly version of Snow White to the screen, but is the one people have been talking about based on the dark and gritty trailers. Most movie-going audiences will have recently seen Hemsworth shine in Marvel’s The Avengers when it releases June 1, and Theron’s role in Prometheus bows a week later on June 8. Kristen Stewart, of course, comes with her own built in audience from five Twilight films.
Before Stewart returns to Snow White, she will star in the very adult action thriller Cali from writer Michael Diliberti. In the “edgy and sexy” film, Stewart plays Mya who, with her boyfriend Chris, live a dangerous and unethical life in in the San Fernando Valley. They create and cash out on a fake snuff film and effectively vanish with their pile of cash, only to have to return when Mya’s sister is in trouble. Upon the couple’s return they’ll face off against “homicidal porn stars, stoner vet techs, angry former business partners, and a unstoppable killing machine in a cowboy hat.”
Filming on Cali is expected to get underway this summer. A director is being currently sought, along with the male lead to play alongside Stewart. Logistically the earliest Snow White and the Huntsman 2 would begin production is late this year or, more likely, in 2013.
