Update: The Kindle Fire HD 7″ sale at Amazon.com has extended beyond one day. Though Amazon is not publishing how long this sale will last, we’re sticking with our guess of 7-10 days based on the previous Kindle Fire HD sale.
Amazon.com has dropped the price of the Kindle Fire HD 7″ tablet in a limited sale timed with back to school for kids around the country that shaves $40 off the price regardless of which configuration is chosen.
The Kindle Fire HD 7″ tablet with 16GB of storage typically sells for $199. During this back to school sale, Amazon has this tablet priced at only $159, matching the lowest price a brand new Kindle Fire HD 7″ tablet has been available for sale at the online retailer before.
Bumping the configuration up to 32GB of storage only adds $30 to the price, bringing it to $189. That’s still less than the usual price Amazon charges for the 16GB model.

Any buyer purchasing a Kindle Fire HD tablet at Amazon will be given 500 Amazon.com coins to spend on a variety of apps and games. This translates into roughly $5 in value.
A Kindle Fire HD tablet grants its owner access to Amazon Prime Instant Video which is full of unlimited streaming TV shows, movies and more. Unfortunately Amazon is not offering an end date for this Kindle Fire HD sale so we don’t know when the price will revert back up by $40. The last time they ran a Kindle Fire HD sale it lasted roughly 10 days. I anticipate this sale running a similar time period considering it is designed to coincide with kids returning to school and hitting the books.
