Retailers around the web have been displaying packaging images for PlayStation 4 games since the console was officially priced at $399 during Sony’s E3 2013 media briefing a week ago from yesterday. Some have looked like mock-ups, others legitimate. I have been holding out for a three-dimensional look at PS4 game packaging from an official source, and that has finally arrived.
Direct from Sony comes the official PS4 box art for the Guerilla Games sequel Killzone Shadow Fall. This is the North American version and carries a high probability of looking almost identical to the finished product that is expected to arrive in stores his November or December.
Thanks to the 3D view, we can now tell that it appears Sony is abandoning the clear translucent PS3 case in favor of a similarly sized case for PS4, albeit in a striking blue hue. That creative direction actually meshes better with Blu-ray movies which were still in a format war with HD-DVD when PS3 was first launched. Blu-ray is the clear cut winner of that short-lived battle and aligning PS4 with the format will only help make both formats stronger.
Killzone Shadow Fall will retail for $59.99 and be available alongside whatever the official launch date of the PS4 console is. It is available to pre-order as a standalone game, and also available to pre-order with a PS4 Launch Day guaranteed bundle that also includes one year of PlayStation Plus membership – a requirement for online multiplayer gameplay – for $10 off its usual price.
