Universal has delivered the first trailer for Jeff Wadlow’s Kick-Ass 2, the sequel that took a little while to get going and may have been destined to become a Kickstarter project had it not gotten a studio green light.
There’s a lot of the expected in this first look at Kick-Ass 2 such as Chloe Moretz kicking butt and spewing vulgarities as Hit Girl, Aaron Johnson looking bloodied and questioning his existence as Kick-Ass, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse hellbent on revenge for the death of his father and taking on the new name “The Mutherf**ker.”
What’s unexpected is how delightfully twisted Jim Carrey is as Colonel Stars and Stripes. He’s masking his voice to the point of being unrecognizable, and delivers the trailer’s best line that involves a dog and balls coming together in a way they aren’t meant to. I’m chuckling merely writing about it.
The green screen work during a Hit Girl rescue attempt atop a moving van looks a little suspect, however the August 16 release date is still a ways off and there’s time to clean that up a bit. I’d also expect to see more of the still mostly hidden other superheroes such as Night Bitch and Doctor Gravity come to the forefront a little bit whenever the next trailer drops.
