Joss Whedon to Rework The Avengers, Polish Captain America Scripts

As Joss Whedon wraps up his negotiations with Marvel Studios to direct The Avengers, details on how deep his influence on Marvel’s film franchise will extend are beginning to surface.

In Variety’s article regarding Joss’ hiring at Marvel, they mention that not only will Joss direct The Avengers but he will also rework the existing script by Zak Penn. With shooting not expected to commence until next January at the earliest, there is plenty of time for Whedon to put his own personal stamp on the film.

Meanwhile over at Pajiba, a source close to The First Avenger: Captain America project has informed them that Whedon is expected to put his pen to Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely’s script to “polish” it. If this pans out, Whedon will be the first writer whose pen has touched multiple Avengers-related Marvel films.

Whedon is no stranger to the Marvel universe having written the first 24 issues of Astonishing X-Men: Volume Three. Give them a look to get an idea of how Whedon’s writing style meshes with superheroes.
