Joss Whedon Confirms Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye in The Avengers

Joss Whedon continued to steal a little thunder from Marvel Studios at Comic-Con today by confirmed via an interview that Academy Award nominated actor Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) will be playing Hawkeye in The Avengers.

“I’m writing and directing it,” Whedon told OnTheRedCarpet.com. “There will be some avenging that takes place during the film and that’s about all I can tell you. I think it’s well-known that Jeremy Renner is joining us as Hawkeye, which is so exciting for me and the rest of the cast.”

In two days of Comic-Con Whedon has managed to confirm himself as The Avengers director and now Renner as Hawkeye, two positions rumored for several weeks now. Other rumors that will either be confirmed or debunked at Marvel Studios’ panel on Saturday include Nathan Fillion or Adrien Brody as Henry Pym, Eva Longoria Parker as Janet van Dyne, and Mark Ruffalo replacing Ed Norton as Bruce Banner / The Hulk. Whoever Marvel marches out onto the stage will join Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Don Cheadle on The Avengers team.
