Iron Man Blu-ray Moves 260k Copies in One Day

Last week director Jon Favreau casually stated on the Sirius Howard Stern show that Iron Man was the bestselling Blu-ray Disc of all time. This declaration came before Paramount released any sales statistics.

Today those numbers have finally begun to trickle out and they prove Jon right. On its first day of sale, 260,000 copies of Iron on Blu-ray Disc were purchased. According to Paramount, this is a Blu-ray Disc record for single-day sales.

In the first week, 500,000 copies of Iron Man were plucked off shelves, another record. While that number is indeed strong, comparatively 7.2 million copies of Iron Man on DVD were bought during the same period.

While Iron Man continues to rack up records, Warner is ramping up their The Dark Knight on Blu-ray marketing machine. Just this morning, Amazon.com began heavily promoting all versions of The Dark Knight (view details) which should catapult it right up the bestsellers list… where Iron Man remains entrenched in the number one spot.
