Iron Man 3 Release Date is May 3, 2013

Speculation surrounding Marvel’s first post-Avengers movie can now finally come to an end. The next Marvel film won’t be based on Ant-Man, Nick Fury, Wasp, The Hulk or Black Widow. It will instead be the obvious choice: Iron Man 3 with Robert Downey Jr.

The announcement (via Variety) of Iron Man 3’s May 3, 2013 release date came today as Disney paid Paramount $115 million to take over the distribution rights of The Avengers and Iron Man 3. Paramount will retain the rights to next year’s Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor, as well as previously released Iron Man and Iron Man 2.

There still stands a strong chance Marvel will release another superhero film in July 2013 based on one of the aforementioned characters. Whenever the first post-Iron Man 3 film arrives, it and any other new Marvel movie films will be distributed by Disney.
