Hereafter Reviews are Middle of the Road

Clint Eastwood’s Hereafter starring Matt Damon is currently the epitome of a mixed reaction amongst critics. On the morning of the film’s release, 51 reviews at Rotten Tomatoes have deemed it fresh while 50 felt it was rotten and not worth the effort to see.

The Hereafter reviews range anywhere from “outstanding” and “a joy” to “disappointing” and “corny.” Mick LaSalle of the San Francisco Chronicle calls it Eastwood’s best while Joe Williams of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch calls it his worst. So which is it?

Deciding whether to go purchase a ticket based on these boundless impressions could prove a near impossible task. We’re going to lean on NPR’s Bob Mondello who sums up everyone’s collective thoughts best with “it sort of works.”
