Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince midnight box office receipts were such a hot commodity that the first of possibly multiple records appears to have fallen.
Per early estimates, Half-Blood Prince brought in an amazing $20 million from midnight showings alone which, if confirmed later today, would be second to none.
The previous record-holder for a midnight opening was The Dark Knight, also from Warner Bros. That film powered its way to an $18 million opening which, at the time, moved its past Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith with $17 million.
Potter mania is expected to carry through the rest of the week and into the weekend where records will be put to the test. 2009 top honors held by Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen should be the first to fall.
I’ll chime back in with Potter box office results as they are released.
