Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Movies Going 3D

Avatar’s 3D success for Fox has gotten under the skin of Warner Bros. who is expected to announce plans this week to release the final two Harry Potter films in 3D.

According to THR’s Heat Vision blog, the studio has been successfully testing completed 3D footage of Clash of the Titans in 3D. Executives have been so enamored with the results that they have gone ahead and green-lit Potter with Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint for 3D conversion.

Each Potter film will cost approximately $5 million to convert plus an additional $5 million for theater expenses including glasses. The upside in added revenue that comes with more expensive 3D ticket prices should easily surpass Warner’s investment.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I is due in theaters on November 19. Part II will arrive the following summer.
