Guillermo del Toro Will Direct Emma Watson in Beauty and the Beast FilmGuillermo del Toro will bring his unique visual style to Beauty and the Beast for Warner Bros. Pictures, which will be known simply as Beast. If all goes according to plan, Emma Watson of Harry Potter fame will topline the film.

Andrew Davies (Bridget Jones’s Diary, The Three Musketeers) has been hired to write the script for Beast that del Toro, originally expected to be involved in a producing capacity only, will direct. Del Toro will provide his own treatment to Davies from which the screenplay will be written.


Del Toro is currently wrapping up work on Pacific Rim for Warner Bros., a big sci-fi epic featuring monsters battling humans piloting massive robots. It stars Charlie Day, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Ron Perlman and Charlie Hunnam, and will be in theaters on May 10, 2013.

Watson continues to further her acting careet with eight Harry Potter films under her belt. She can currently be seen in My Week With Marilyn alongside Michelle Williams, and will next appear in The Perks of Being a Wallflower with Nina Dobrev (The Vampire Diaries) and Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief). She is currently in final negotiations at the studio for the Beast female lead.

Beast has no release date and is not expected to arrive in theaters until late 2013 at the earliest.
