Godzilla Extended Look Trailer Opens Up Can of Awesome

Godzilla Extended Look Trailer Opens Up Can of AwesomeLate last month Warner Bros. and director Gareth Edwards held a special screening event for Godzilla that featured a new alternate trailer with tons of all-new footage. That cut also was screened at a special Godzilla movie event at South by Southwest a short time later.

Today the Godzilla extended look trailer has at least partially been released to the masses and as promised is chock full of awesome. The trailer begins with the flashback that gets the film going, a nuclear disaster featuring Bryan Cranston’s character that ultimately takes the life of his wife. As we all know the accident wasn’t due to anything nuclear.

The new Godzilla trailer also gives us an extended look at the Hawaii sequence in which the big guy comes ashore. As he prepares to make his way to land, the sea tide pulls back and then kicks forth a massive tsunami. We see the water rush through the streets, and then some military guys shoot up some flares to reveal a partial look at the towering beast.

The action beats pick up intensity from that point forward as we get a glimpse at some of the other monsters that will appear in the film. As destructive as Godzilla is, humanity ultimately needs him to take out the other monstrous threats that have also emerged from the depths of the earth.

A fitting closing shot shows Godzilla letting loose his might roar. I’m guessing that shot comes immediately after he’s leveled part of a city or done battle with one of the other beasts.

Thus far in all the Godzilla trailers and looks there has only been one or two glimpses of Elizabeth Olsen. She’s considered a main character in the film so I would expect to see more of her when Godzilla stomps into theaters on May 16.
