The GI Joe sequel is beginning to stand on firmer ground with Paramount settling on and announcing an August 10, 2012 release date, predictably almost three years to the day after GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra arrived in theaters.
So far the few tidbits of information about GI Joe 2 have been met with a mixed to negative reaction. Jon Chu of Justin Bieber: Never Say Never fame has been brought on to direct rather than a big name action director, while Rachel Nichols took to Twitter and declared that Snake Eyes, Scarlett and Storm Shadow would be the only returning cast members.
The only positive bit of news thus far is Zombieland scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have written the story and screenplay. If they wrote out most of the characters from the original including almost all of Cobra, is that really a positive?
