Gears of War 3 Beta Opens April 25 and Offers Gold-Plated Retro Lancer

Thanks to a big whopping promotional graphic on Gamestop’s homepage we now know when the Gears of War 3 multiplayer beta will begin, how long it will run, what rewards it will offer, and another guaranteed way to gain access to it.

The Gears of War 3 public multiplayer beta is scheduled to kick off on April 25 and will run through at least May 15. The Gears of War 3 beta page at Gamestop does not list the end date, but the regular Gears of War 3 product page on the same site does.

If you purchased the Bulletstorm Epic Edition for Xbox 360 then the code that came with it grants you access to beta beginning on April 18. This is the only way to get into the beta a week early.

Anyone who pre-orders any edition of Gears of War 3 from Gamestop, either online or in-store, will receive a code to enter the beta on April 25. If you already had a pre-order in place then simply go a Gamestop store with proof of the pre-order and they’ll hand over a code.

Those who play the Gears of War 3 beta will gain some unique rewards that will not be available in the full retail version that arrives in stores on September 20. Completing one match in the beta will earn the Beta Tester Medal (pictured) that will carry forward in your gamer profile to the full game. Completing 50 matches will unlock Thrashball Cole as a playable character.

To unlock the Gold-Plated Retro Lancer you’ll need to complete 90 matches before the public beta wraps up. Once the Gold-Plated Retro Lancer is in hand, you’ll need to score 100 kills with it to carry it forward in your gamer profile to the full Gears of War 3 game.
