Gears of War 2 hasn’t been in stores for a week yet and already Microsoft is sharing some very impressive sales numbers.
Over its launch weekend, approximately 2 million copies of the game were purchased worldwide. Assuming all copies were the standard edition that’s a minimum of $120 million in sales in three days. Those are blockbuster film opening numbers.
Of those 2 million Gears of War 2 owners, 1.5 million logged into Xbox Live logging 15 million gameplay hours and setting a new concurrent active users record for a game. That helps explain some of the major issues he had getting a multiplayer match up and running smoothly.
What about Achievements? Over 19 million were unlocked this past weekend. Clearly, not a lot of house work was accomplished last weekend.
