Tron 3 picked up a little more steam this past week after Tron: Legacy star Garrett Hedlund opened up about his potential involvement in the project.
In speaking with NextMovie about his upcoming flick On the Road, Hedlund surprisingly responded to an inquiry about appearing in the upcoming sequel with, “Yeah…Are we gonna break this now?” He went on to pull Disney into the discussion as well. “Disney’s very excited,” he continued. “That’s about that. You know, yeah, I’m very excited, Disney’s very excited.”
A little over a week ago, Disney announced that Jesse Wigutow is in negotiations to pen the Tron 3 screenplay. Wigutow’s previous works include the television movie The Prince as well as uncredited work on the big screen adaptation of Eragon.
Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski is expected to return and call the shots on Tron 3 as well.
Disney is looking to get Tron 3 on the fast track and this latest news is evidence of that. Bruce Boxleitner has been the most vocal about the rumored project up until now, suggesting earlier this year that he expects production to get underway in 2014. If Disney’s sense of urgency has increased, the film could theoretically begin shooting before 2013 checks out.
There’s no doubt Tron 3 will be a visually stunning film if Legacy is any indication. As big a part of the film’s success was the mesmerizing score by Daft Punk, a winning formula I would hope Disney sticks with for the next sequel.
