EA and DICE’s Battlefield 4 is quite real and a real stunner, according to a intriguing tweet yesterday that is fueling all sorts of speculation as to what might happen later today.
The tweet came from Gamestop CEO Paul Raines and reads, “Got to see Battlefield 4 today and all I can say is WOW! Thanks @EA for the sneak peek. Can’t wait for you all to see it. ^CEO #BF4.” This tells us EA is comfortable showing Battlefield 4 outside their friendly confines. If Gamestop’s top brass saw it then odds are favorable other big retail chiefs might have also been granted a sneak peek.
The timing of Raines’ tweet is most curious. It comes only one day before Sony’s big Playstation event in New York City that will either deliver a first look at Playstation 4 – or whatever they decide to call it – or set the Internet ablaze in endless cries of disappointment after several weeks of burgeoning hype.
I’d like to think that if Battlefield 4 is ready to show retailers then it’s ready to show the rest of us on the grand stage of Sony’s PS4 unveiling in just a few hours. It’s a safe bet that Sony will cater toward their first party IPs, but I’d to think there’s room for some big third-party heavy hitters to make a showing. Battlefield 4 more than fits the bill.
