HBO’s Game of Thrones kicked off its second season by setting the table for the events to come. The Starks, still mourning the death of Eddard, are scattered around Westeros. The Lannisters have partially come together, though not necessarily with noble intentions. And the Baratheons are on the verge of declaring war on each other.
When the Season 2 premiere ‘The North Remembers’ wound down its final moments, someone ordered the King’s guard to track down and execute former King Robert’s bastard children. Teenagers, babies and everything in between. Robert was a busy man, and the mothers of his pleasurable follies must now grieve the violent loss of their children.
One bastard, Gendry, got away, seen on a cart with Arya Stark heading toward the Wall. Now the Lannisters two most wanted are riding together, and not a single Lannister has a clue of their whereabouts.
In tonight’s Game of Thrones episode ‘The Night Lands,’ look for Arya and Gendry to get a little more screen time than a single shot riding on a cart. Tyrion will learn of the bastard purge and, of course, take exception to the cowardly act.
Look for Stannis, Melisandre and Davos to build their ranks for an invasion of King’s Landing. Up north, Theon Greyjoy will leave the Stark’s as their ward and return to his father for help.
