The first full-length trailer for Real Steel has arrived and delivers a one-two punch of rock-em’ sock-em’ robot boxing action draped with heavy emotional drama.
I was not sold at all on the Real Steel concept until the first teaser trailer landed, and even then I had doubts about the Rocky-like storyline infused with high-tech robots who do all the dirty work. There’s something compelling about watching Hugh Jackman’s character and his son discover the robot discarded and buried in mud, then subsequently train him as mentor and fighter work hard to recapture their glory days. The robot, and the other combatants, look and feel “real” as they pummel each other in the ring. Which is the film’s intent given its name.
Real Steel starring Hugh Jackman, Dakota Goyo, Kevin Durand, Anthony Mackie and Evangeline Lilly opens in theaters everywhere on October 7.
