Fox Blu-ray Titles Crack Amazon Top 10

Earlier this week, Amazon.com launched a buy two Blu-ray Disc titles, get the third for free promotion to help spur sales. The majority of titles featured in the promotion came from Fox’s catalog, with a few Sony and MGM titles tossed in for good measure.

The promotion has had an almost immediate impact on Amazon’s sales charts with both Independence Day and I, Robot cracking the home video bestsellers list.

On the Blu-ray charts, those two titles have surpassed the hot-selling National Treasure 1 and 2 Blu-ray two-pack, exclusive to Amazon and priced aggressively at $39.99.

Unlike past Amazon promotions, this one comes with a hint of scandal. When the promotion first went live, Fox titles were priced at $25.95. Thanks to an alert from reader “Blu,” we discovered that less than 48 hours later, the price jumped to $27.95. As much as we love Amazon’s sales which are second to none, this move leaves a sour taste in the mouth.

The promotion is scheduled to run another week or so. Whether a new Blu-ray deal will replaced it remains to be seen.
