Michael Bay recently told Empire Magazine that Megatron would not be in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen despite multiple images of a new Megatron toy with a tank alt-mode being leaked. No misinformation. No jokes. Cold hard fact.
With Megatron still rotting on the ocean floor, who will step up and appear as the film’s new protagonist and give Optimus, Bumblebee and the rest of the Autobots fits?
What we could be looking at is the first image of “The Fallen” courtesy of the first one-sheet poster released this evening by Paramount. If this is The Fallen, he certainly looks bad, ugly and likely won’t seek his revenge until the film’s second half or even closing act. Why do I think that? Well, why was the second Star Wars prequel called Attack of the Clones when they didn’t fire a shot until there were only 20 minutes left in the movie?
Regardless of when The Fallen seeks his revenge, I have to feel sorry for Paramount’s other big nostalgic summer tentpole, G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra. Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow are going to have a hard time sizing up to The Fallen and countless other badass Transformers at the box office. Bay seems to agree:
Okay it’s time to turn up the heat on Transformers – Revenge of the Fallen. We’ve waited low in the weeds letting all the summer movies get their stuff out. We’ve seen the great year end movies, and watched the upcoming clips of the upcoming summer fare. We’ve seen certain movies coming out even try to duplicate Transformer size robots in their ads. Please, come on.
Well, I promise you we will rock your world with Transformers 2. The fans wanted ROBOTS KICKING ASS – well we got it. Today we are releasing the teaser poster and soon the onslaught will continue with a steady drum beat until June 26th.
I’ll keep you informed.
Bay
Whether this is The Fallen or Jetfire as some Transformers boards are suggesting doesn’t really matter. It’s just good to see and get confirmation that Tranformers 2 media is starting to kick into gear. Next stop: the first teaser trailer. Don’t be cheap, Paramount. Fork out for a Superbowl spot.
