As promised, today Marvel Studios and Paramount shared the first theatrical one-sheet movie poster for Captain America: The First Avenger. Truth be told it wasn’t what I was expecting. It’s actually better.
Chris Evans dons his Captain America outfit on the poster with his eyes closed and head pointed downward. Each hand grips his shield which is pressed against the ground in front of him.
What makes the poster “pop” is how gritty and dirty it is. Cap looks like he’s standing in the middle of a battlefield with dirt flying all around him. His outfit and shield are equally dinged up to complete the successful imagery of the horror of war – in this case World War II.
Missing from the poster is any sign of the film’s title: Captain America: The First Avenger. Instead we get the single word “Avenge” which obviously ties into The Avengers but could also describe one of the film’s plot lines.
During the Super Bowl on Sunday is when Marvel and Paramount will unleash the first Captain America: The First Avenger footage on us during a TV spot / commercial. There remains a slim chance it will be released online a few hours earlier so keep your eyes peeled just in case.
Captain America: The First Avenger, the final film before The Avengers assemble, will go to war on July 22.
