It has been awhile since Nintendo has shared what’s cooking with upcoming Wii U and 3DS products via their Nintendo Direct videos. Today they finally announced that the first 2014 Nintendo Direct will arrive tomorrow, February 13 at 5pm EST / 2pm PST.
This new Nintendo Direct will focus squarely on the games launching for Wii U and 3DS between now and the end of spring. On the Wii U front, the next big first-party entry is Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, set for release a week from this Friday on February 21. Expect a decent portion of the Nintendo Direct to focus on this big new entry in the Wii u games lineup.
I would also expect Nintendo to finally reveal a release date for Mario Kart 8. The game is expected to arrive in either late April or more likely May, so we are right in the window of time when a release date would be shared with the public.
The next big 3DS game is Yoshi’s New Island set for release on March 14. I would anticipate Nintendo divulging some new features that Yoshi’s next adventure will offer.
What’s unclear is whether Nintendo will choose to touch upon the 2014 release and debut of Super Smash Bros. on Wii U and 3DS. Technically the game isn’t a spring release, but Nintendo might sneak in a new fighter announcement or some other small tease at the tail end of the Nintendo Direct presentation.
