Filming Starts on Roman Epic The Eagle of the Ninth

Focus Features has announced shooting has commenced on the upcoming Roman epic adventure, The Eagle of the Ninth.

The film is set in Britain 140 AD and stars Channing Tatum (G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra) as Marcus Aquila, a young centurion hoping to solve the mystery of the Ninth Legion, led by his father, who vanished in battle 20 years prior.

Accompanying Marcus on his journey beyond Hadrian’s Wall into the uncharted highlands of Caledonia is Jamie Bell (Jumper) as his British slave Esca. Together they search for the Eagle of the Ninth, a seal carried by his father, enlisting the help of Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes) as ex-soldier Guern and Donald Sutherland as Marcus’ uncle along the way.

The Eagle of the Ninth is filming entirely in Hungary and Scotland with State of Play and The Last King of Scotland director Kevin Macdonald behind the lens.
