An article published today in the Wall Street Journal reveals Disney’s Platinum Blu-ray Disc plans for the next two years.
A source at Disney has disclosed Pinocchio, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Fantasia, Fantasia 2000 and Beauty and the Beast are being prepped for Platinum Blu-ray treatments within the next two years.
Previously Disney had only committed to Sleeping Beauty on October 7 of this year. The move is designed to spur additional interest in Blu-ray with classic franchises sooner rather than later.
Disney will pack the five additional titles with features set to appear on Sleeping Beauty such as BD-Live and BD-J. “BD Live is not a niche product,” stated Bob Chapek, president of Disney’s home entertainment unit. “We see mass adoption of the technology.”
If spaced out evenly, the second Platinum title should arrived sometime next spring.
