Retailers have begun to list Fanboys for a simultaneous DVD and Blu-ray Disc release on November 18. That date would put it day-and-date with the rumored Warner Brothers release date for Star Wars: The Clone Wars on DVD and Blu-ray, and only two months later than the theatrical release date of September 19.
Fanboys is about four friends who embark on a road trip to Skywalker Ranch to fulfill the wish of their dieing friend: steal an early print of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, so their friend can see it before he dies from Cancer.
Fanboys first wrapped two years ago but since has endured numerous re-shoots due to an influx of new money and an experiment to remove a “Cancer” plot line in favor of more humor. Only last month did director Kyle Newman confirm the “Cancer” plot would be included in the final version, but he made no mention of the alternate version appearing on home video via seamless branching.
Wellspring and Genius Products will publish Fanboys on Blu-ray in 1080p video and 5.1 Dolby TrueHD audio, per a report at blu-news.com.
Fanboys on Blu-ray is expected to carry an SRP in the mid-$20 range. We’ll pass along further updates as they are received.
