Extended Iron Man 3 Super Bowl Commercial and New Stills Arrive

Extended Iron Man 3 Super Bowl Commercial and New Stills ArriveAfter all the hype and elevated hopes to be “wowed’ by Marvel and Disney’s Iron Man 3 Super Bowl commercial, the single-scene spot landed with a thud as it served to push people online for an “extended look” at the film’s official Facebook page.

And that “extended” look was comprised mostly of footage ripped right out of the previously released trailers.

The Iron Man 3 Super Bowl commercial focused on the midair demise of Air Force One that sends a handful of the plane’s passengers hurtling toward their certain death from thousands of feet up in the air. Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) also happened to be on the plane and must now make the difficult decision of not only how to rescue them all, but what order to rescue them in.

While the photography in the spot is excellent, the editing is about as anti-climatic as it could possibly be. We see Iron Man in his new Mark XLII armor grab onto the hand of one of the passengers, the plane explode overhead, and then cut, off to the Facebook promo hook it goes. Yawn.

There are a couple new split-second shots in the extended ad but for the most part you have seen it all already. Tony’s house gets blown to bits. War Machine gets a patriotic makeover. The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) is really good at sitting still and looking all terrorist-like.

Marvel – thus far – wants to keep much of Iron Man 3 under wraps. They’re doing a great job so far, much to the chagrin of the rest of us. Look for Iron Man 3 in theaters on May 3, 2013.
