SCE Worldwide Studios and Evolution Studios have delayed the PlayStation 4 launch title Drive Club into early 2014, it has been confirmed on the official Sony PlayStation Blog.
Drive Club was one of the first titles announced for PS4 earlier this year and a first-party launch title exclusive. It now joins Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs as the second PS4 launch title that will not be available for the console’s launch.
The delay of Drive Club will affect the PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection that was to include the game. It still will, but at a later date. To compensate for the Drive Club delay, Sony is offering some other goodies. Here’s the official statement from Shuhei Yoshida, President of SCE Worldwide Studios:
To be clear, DRIVECLUB PlayStation Plus Edition will still be part of the Instant Game Collection when it is released. For the PS4 launch, in addition to Resogun, I’m pleased to announce that Contrast, the highly anticipated game from Compulsion Games will also be available to PlayStation Plus members for free as part of Instant Game Collection. If you’re not aware of Contrast, it will whisk you away to a surreal vaudevillian, film-noir inspired reality full of performance, intrigue, shadow-play and drama. Please check out the trailer below. I’m sure you’ll agree that it is unlike anything you will have played before.
We’re also offering members access to an exclusive “Open Weekend” trial of Killzone Shadow Fall multiplayer on December 28-29.
Here’s the trailer Yoshida is referring to:
On one hand it does stink that PS4 is down another launch title. On the other, the delay is for all the right reasons, to ensure the best possible final product is what’s delivered, and Sony is stepping up to the plate to help take away some of the sting with Contrast for free and the Killzone: Shadow Fall free multiplayer weekend.
The Drive Club PS4 delay leaves more time to play NBA 2K14 on PS4, which is about as must-own as you can get after this trailer dropped yesterday.
