Djimon Hounsou has joined Universal’s Fast & Furious 7 just as production and shooting around Los Angeles, California got underway last week.
James Wan, whose Insidious: Chapter 2 is threatening September box office records this weekend, is directing the next installment in the street racing-turn-caper thriller franchise that seems to pick up speed with each additional entry. Fast & Furious 6 was the highest-grossing film yet with $788 million worldwide. Furious 7 will be pushing to reach the $700 million mark.
Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson and Tyrese Gibson are confirmed to return, while Hounsou joins newcomers Ronda Rousey, Kurt Russell and Jason Statham, the latter of whom was set up as the film’s villain in the after-credits scene of Fast & Furious 6.
Diesel shared an image from the set on Facebook as shooting kicked off, which you can see below. Universal will release Fast & Furious 7 on July 11, 2014.
