Disney’s return to traditional hand-drawn animation with The Princess and the Frog brought in an estimated $7 million in its first day of wide release on Friday, easily besting the competition. Its cumulative total factoring in limited release theaters the past few weeks falls just shy of $10 million.
The Blind Side continues to play strong adding $4.7 million to its pot on Friday for a running total of $139.5 million. The Twilight Saga: New Moon predictably came in fourth with $2.4 million.
Clint Eastwood’s Invictus was met with a lukewarm reception of $2.9 million on its opening day, good enough for third. It should finish the weekend in the $10 million range.
