Walt Disney Studios today announced they have purchased the rights to The Runner and are moving forward to develop the sci-fi project into a feature-length movie.
The Runner is the story of a man who travels back in time to save the woman he loves by altering history. What time period or periods he visits are being kept under wraps.
Dave Andron, who developed NBC’s ‘Knight Rider’ reboot, originally penned The Runner story as a television spec pilot but it was reworked into a film script. Brian Grazer is set to produce while Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace, Finding Neverland) is attached to direct.
The earliest The Runner would be expected to arrive in theaters would be in the latter half of 2012, and that assumes Disney is able to lock in a production schedule, budget, crew and cast within the next few months. Forster’s schedule won’t be clear until after October 12 when his latest directorial effort Machine Gun Preacher starring Gerard Butler arrives in theaters.
