Disney Releasing Two Marvel Films in 2014

Disney today announced they will release two Marvel feature films in the summer of 2014, in addition to a handful of other release date announcements.

The first Marvel film from Disney that year will arrive on May 16, 2014. The second is scheduled for June 27, 2014.

Right now there are four contenders to fill those two film slots. The top two right now are a sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger and a film based on Doctor Strange. Marvel could also choose to get moving on Edgar Wright’s long gestating Ant-Man project, a Guardians Of The Galaxy film that seems to be in the early stages of development, or bet big and lock in The Avengers 2 before the first one releases.

Marvel already has three films scheduled for release in 2012 and 2013. The Avengers will drop first on May 4, 2012, and is expected to do huge business. The following year will see Iron Man 3 touch down on May 3, 2013, followed by Thor 2 on July 26, 2013.

In other Disney news, the Mouse House will release another Pixar film on May 30, 2014, two weeks after the first Marvel movie that year hits. Another untitled Pixar project is on tap for November 27, 2013.

Disney has also dated The Odd Life of Timothy Green for August 15, 2012, and Henry Selick’s (Coraline) next project to a Halloween-friendly October 4, 2013.

We *might* see clarification as to what those Marvel and Pixar films will be when Disney’s D23 Expo kicks off on August 19.
