Dexter’s kill table became a sex bed last week when he succombed to the combined stimulation of the kill and desire, helped along by Hannah McKay’s willingness to let him end her life without showing a hint of emotion. The melodramatic turn from murder to sex didn’t quite jump the shark for the series, but it was a definite turn in tone from the tense back-and-forth games between Dexter and Deb that kicked off Season 7 with a bang.
To Deb, Dexter is now literally sleeping with the enemy by hooking up with Hannah. Previews for tonight’s episode reveal that Deb is on to Hannah and may make a request to Dexter that he take her out, keeping in mind that Hannah has already struck a deal with the courts granting her immunity from the law. The only justice left for Hannah is the vigilante kind, that is unless she gets caught up in a web that Dexter has spun.
In another corner of Dexter’s tangled mess of a life, Quinn has been bribed into helping Isaac walk via threats to essentially kill his Russian stripper girlfriend. Isaac on the loose will be extremely bad news for Dexter, especially if Isaac learns that Dexter now has a new love in his life.
As much as I would hate for Dexter to retrace the Trinity Killer storyline that resulted in Rita’s death, it sure seems like this season is headed down a similar path. I don’t see Dexter killing off Hannah, but Isaac would do it in a heartbeat for revenge since Dexter killed his lover, Victor. My fingers are crossed that a twist or two will derail that thought into oblivion.
Tonight’s episode ‘Chemistry’ marks the beginning of the second half of Dexter: Season 7. For Lt. Maria LaGuerta that means the slow crawl to track down the Bay Harbor Butcher will labor on. Technically speaking she has made no progress since the season premiere thanks to Deb’s meddling in the evidence.
Below is a new clip from ‘Chemistry’ with Dexter driving Hannah home after their bizarre night together, capped by a biker that may end up splattered on their windshield. I have also included some stills from the episode that debuts tonight on Showtime at 9/8c.
