Showtime continues to slowly unravel the main plots of Dexter: Season 6 in the second episode, ‘Once Upon a Time.’
With his high school reunion and the joys it brought behind him, Dexter Morgan sets his Dark Passenger’s sights on Brother Sam (Mos Def), a reformed murderer who has turned to God and religion for direction and support. Brother Sam owns a body shop and employs only those like him who also need help and direction. This sets up a clever move by Dexter to get his attention.
The word “reform” isn’t in Dexter’s vocabulary when it comes to Dark Passengers, whether it’s his or someone else’s. Brother Sam can say all he wants about new beginnings, but Dexter’s focus is set on what’s he done, not what he’s doing or will do.
Brother Sam’s introduction expands upon the religious themes prevalent in Season 6. Expect to learn a little more about Professor James Gellar (Edward James Olmos) and his assistant Travis Marshall (Colin Hanks), but it won’t be until the conclusion of episode 3 until they really make a bold move.
