David Mamet Penning New Anne Frank Film

This year the film version of The Diary of Anne Frank is celebrating its 50th anniversary on DVD and Blu-ray Disc. Now there is more reason to celebrate the young girl’s legacy.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has hired David Mamet to pen a screenplay based on Anne’s original diary, a 1950s play on the subject, and Mamet’s own interpretation.

Mamet is best known for writing the 1984 play Glengarry Glen Ross which became a staple in schools and landed the playwright a Pulitzer Prize. More recently he conceived the show The Unit about US uncover operatives.

Disney has not set a timetable for the new Anne Frank film to appear but a best guess would be late 2010 or 2011.
