Steven Spielberg has found his Abraham Lincoln in renowned actor Daniel Day-Lewis after nearly a decade of toying with the biopic film project spotlighting the 16th President of the United States.
Spielberg and Day-Lewis will come together for the first time on Lincoln in a story based on the 2005 book ‘Team of Rivals’ by Doris Kearns Goodwin. The book focuses on Lincoln’s relationship with his cabinet members including Edward Bates (Attorney General), Salmon Chase (Secretary of the Treasury) and William H. Seward (Secretary of State) during his struggles to end the Civil War.
Liam Neeson had at one time been rumored to be the man Spielberg was eying to portray Lincoln. With Daniel Day-Lewis, Spielberg has found someone with an impeccable acting pedigree and a Lincoln-esque mug to match.
Filming on Lincoln will begin next fall with Lincoln hitting theaters sometime in 2012. Immediately after shooting Lincoln, Spielberg will hop over to another DreamWorks project, Robopocalypse, in January 2012. That big budget sci-fi film will not be released until 2013.
