Daniel Day-Lewis wasn’t shy about going out in public wearing his full Abraham Lincoln makeup. Evidence of his recent excursion has made its way to the Internet for us to enjoy.
Richmond, Virginia local Michael Phelps happened upon Daniel Day-Lewis eating lunch in a restaurant yesterday. The actor didn’t quite look himself; instead, his head was in full makeup and beard configuration for his role as Abraham Lincoln in Steven Spielberg’s in-production biopic Lincoln.
Daniel Day-Lewis certainly looks the part of the sixteenth president even while casually taking in a meal off the set. The beard does the trick, of course, but there’s also something spot on in the gaze of his eyes. He looks as if he’s about to impart some wisdom and advice to the waiter.
I’d even argue the sweater he’s wearing makes him look the part of Steve Jobs, a role Daniel Day-Lewis would certainly knock out of the park if given the opportunity.
Lincoln has been in the works for several years, waiting for Spielberg to fit it into his hectic producing and directing schedule. Liam Neeson was originally slated to play Abraham Lincoln but eventually dropped out due to the film’s delays, opening the door for Daniel Day-Lewis to assume the role.
In addition to Daniel Day-Lewis, Lincoln also stars James Spader, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Sally Field, Jackie Earle Haley, David Oyelowo, John Hawkes, and Tim Blake Nelson. Look for it to arrive in theaters in December 2012.
