The anticipated deal that would allow Conan O’Brien to leave NBC’s The Tonight Show has been signed and confirmed by the network. An official announcement is expected to me made later this morning with the deal said to be worth between $40 and $45 million.
O’Brien’s last gig will be Friday (tomorrow) where he will sit with guests Tom Hanks and Will Ferrell and end his seven-month run with the Tonight Show. Re-runs are expected to air until March 1 when Jay Leno will return to The Tonight Show and attempt to salvage viewers as the massive public relations nightmare begins to subside.
All that is left to put the NBC late night debacle to rest is where Conan will go next. “Now he just wants to get back on the air as quickly as possible,” Conan’s manager Gavin Polone told Entertainment Weekly.
