CBS has opted to pre-empt the Mike and Molly season finale episode titled ‘Windy City’ following a devastating tornado that touched down just south of Oklahoma City earlier today.
The episode centered around the title characters, Mike and Molly, holed up in Chicago as a tornado approached. No tornado damage was to appear in the episode, but the network rightfully felt the plot hit a little too close to home considering today’s tragic events.
Pre-empting the Mike and Molly season finale is a re-run of an earlier episode. The season finale is expected to air at an as-of-yet determined later date.
Here is the official statement as issued by CBS earlier today:
“Due to the tragic events this afternoon in Oklahoma, we are pre-empting tonight’s season finale of Mike & Molly, which has a related storyline. A repeat broadcast of Mike & Molly will run in the time period. The season finale will be broadcast at an appropriate date.”
Tonight’s Mike and Molly pre-emption is not the first time a tragic event has affected the release of a television episode or film. Last year Warner Bros. pushed back Gangster Squad by six months and removed a theater shootout scene following the events that transpired in Aurora, Colorado in July.
