Bryan Cranston Up for Total Recall Villain Role, Story Details Emerge

Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston has entered negotiations to portray the main villain in Columbia Pictures’ Total Recall remake project. Along with the casting scoop from Variety comes the first plot details via THR which deviate somewhat from the Philip K. Dick story ‘We Can Remember It for You Wholesale’ that the original Total Recall was loosely based on.

Cranston will play Vilos Cohaagen, the president/leader of nation state Euroamerica who hides his true intention of invading neighboring nation state New Shanghai under the guise of protecting his people. Meanwhile Douglas Quaid, the protagonist to be played by Colin Farrell, is a factory worker in New Shanghai who comes to believe he’s actually a spy but can’t figure out which side his allegiance lies.

It’s a busy few years for Cranston as he continues to ramp up his acting gigs. In addition to starring in and winning three consecutive Emmy’s for his role in AMC’s ‘Breaking Bad,’ Cranston recently appeared in The Lincoln Lawyer with Matthew McConaughey and will be seen in Disney’s John Carter of Mars next year.

Total Recall will be directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld) and is expected to be released in theaters on August 3, 2012.
