AMC has unveiled its summer 2012 schedule lead by the premiere of Breaking Bad: Season 5 starring Bryan Cranston on Sunday, July 15. The final season of Breaking Bad will span a total of 16 episodes.
That’s the good news.
The bad news is AMC wants to get another two summers out of Breaking Bad and have chosen to split Season 5 between this summer and next. So beginning July 15, AMC will air eight consecutive episodes of Breaking Bad. The final eight will not air until the summer of 2013.
Season 4 of Breaking Bad spanned 13 episodes so the final season is getting a three episode bump. One way to look at the split is the glass is half full and consider this summer’s episodes to be Season 5 and next to be Season 6. At eight episodes a piece, each block isn’t that far off from a traditional full season.
Speaking of Breaking Bad: Season 4, Sony has set June 5 for the Blu-ray and DVD release.
