On July 28, Universal Studios Home Entertainment will shift The Fast and the Furious films into high gear on Blu-ray Disc with the first-time release of Fast & Furious, the first-time release of the three previous films as singles, and the likely release of a new franchise box set with all four films.
Fast & Furious on Blu-ray starring Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster and Michelle Rodriguez will follow the template of its predecessors with 2.35:1 1080p video, 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, and D-BOX Motion Control support as part of a two-disc special edition set.
Exclusive to Blu-ray will be a pair of U-Control featuers, a BD-Live feature and access to Universal’s BD-Live portal. A partial but most likely near complete list of supplements is as follows:
- U-Control: Paul Walker and Director Justin Lin Take Control of your player to reveal exciting behind-the-scenes details
- U-Control: Virtual Car Garage offers up-close inspection of hot cars and custom vehicle creation
- BD-Live: Fast & Furious Video Mashup to create videos and share online
- Digital copy
- Under the Hood: Muscle Cars & Imports
- High Octane Action: The Stunts
- Shooting the Big Rig Heist
- Driving School with Vin Diesel
- Original Short Film Los Bandoleros: The never-before-seen short film that reveals the events leading up to the explosive beginning of Fast & Furious
The Fast and the Furious Franchise Collection is confirmed for DVD though its Blu-ray status is still unclear. If it does come to Blu-ray then the set will include the two-disc special editions of The Fast and the Furious, 2 Fast 2 Furious, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, and Fast & Furious.
Pricing for Fast & Furious and the other films as singles on Blu-ray should be available in the near future. Full details including high-res cover art for all titles will be passed along as soon as Universal makes an official announcement.
